Journey of Twinhub

The journey started back in 2017 when I was working remotely for a US based company as a Software Development Manager. Working from home for a couple of months realised me the importance of a professional working environment which helps in better and well organised life. Getting lazy, spending a lot of time in households, running errands, working late nights and then getting up late, getting disconnected with friends and social life, lack of self grooming, etc were all the downsides of working from home. Apart from these, not having an ideal environment for attending online team meetings from home was one of the biggest challenges.

In order to get rid of these issues, I decided to join a coworking space and did a research on available options in twin cities of Rawalpindi & Islamabad. There were just a few options available at that time, I visited all, took trial of a few and joined one. The spaces I liked were extremely expensive and inconveniently located for the majority of the residents of both the cities. Finally I decided to opt for a comparatively better located and economical one but I faced multiple issues including poor premises hygiene, regular internet issues, lack of parking and the biggest of all, uncomfortable chairs which caused me severe back pain. I tried respectfully complaining but unfortunately, no luck.

One of my fellows there was also just as frustrated as me and suggested getting an office on rent, gathering a couple of more like minded individuals and sharing the expenses. This way we would be able to focus more on the very basic needs of freelancers (like stable & fast internet, premises hygiene and comfortable furniture, etc) which, in our opinion, we understand better than most of the business people who are running coworking spaces.

I spent days and nights putting efforts to execute the idea. The more efforts I put, the closer I came to the business model of coworking space. I did detailed research, conducted surveys, and finally came to know I-8 is the ideal sector for a coworking space in Islamabad due to its central location and accessibility to everything you need (i.e. metro, expressway, bus stop, every bank branch, all major coffee and food outlets, supermarkets, etc). I made the aim to fill the gap by launching an ideally located coworking space but with economical & affordable pricing without compromising on basic needs of freelancers despite the fact that rents at I-8 Markaz were way higher than many other sectors.

I strongly believe one must give their maximum effort and take the last possible step in order to achieve their aims. Keeping that in view, I visited every single building of I-8, explored available offices as per our requirements and limited budget. After the struggle of two months, we finally decided on an office space. Right then, the two colleagues who were willing to join me in this initiative, stepped back at the very last moment from making their part of investment. Rather than loosing hope, I used social media and contacted friends for collaboration. Finally after few weeks of efforts, I got a couple of partners to join me on this new journey.

Long story short, scarcity of financial resources demanded extreme vigilance and expertise for successfully running the startup. We started from MVP and eventually kept on adding the facilities into the premises with monthly earnings. Our detailed feasibility reports and the research helped us to a great extent in managing twinhub successfully. Since we were so determined for the successful future of twinhub, none of the directors took monetary benefits from twinhub's profits, and instead allowed the profits to be reinvested in the business. Hence this resulted in 4x expansion by the year 2021 without any additional investment. 

We have tested the model and proven the need. We know this is just the beginning and we have much higher aims in the future. We are passionate about empowering youth, empowering women, improving people's lives, and providing a positive, friendly and entrepreneurial ecosystem for youngsters. All in all, we want to do our part in improving the social economic development of our beloved country and the world.
